Thứ nhất, tiếng Anh có cả một cái thang — virtually certain, likely, conceivable, improbable là bốn khẳng định khác nhau, và dùng “definitely” cho thứ chỉ ở mức có khả năng là một lỗi cùng loại với ghi sai con số. Thứ hai, mọi khẳng định đều có phạm vi: cho ai, ở đâu, khi nào. Một khẳng định không có phạm vi thì không thể sai, nghe như điểm mạnh mà thật ra ngược lại. Thứ ba, dự phóng không phải dự đoán — nó là phép tính chạy trên một bộ giả định, nên phần lớn thất bại trong dự báo là thất bại của giả định chứ không phải của phép tính.
