American Language League (trước năm 2024 mang tên National Language Arts League – NLAL) là kỳ thi tiếng Anh thường niên dành cho học sinh Mỹ từ lớp 1 đến lớp 12, kiểm tra từ vựng, ngữ pháp, chính tả và đọc hiểu. Đề này nguyên bản dành cho Grade 5-6; đề bài giữ nguyên tiếng Anh, phần hướng dẫn có thêm lời dịch tiếng Việt, đáp án theo bảng đáp án chính thức của ban tổ chức.

Passage B
The biblical King David has multiple symbolism. As a slayer of the giant Goliath, he is a personification of physical prowess and courage and the conqueror of evil. As the great king and savior of Israel, he is both a forerunner and ancestor of Christ. Yet the story of Bathsheba also shows David, like his son Solomon, to be a symbol of flawed greatness. David was a shepherd boy chosen by the prophet Samuel to succeed Saul as the King of the Israelites. Saul led the Israelite army into battle against the Philistines, whose champion was Goliath, an 8-foot giant clad in heavy armor. Goliath offered a challenge of single combat to the best of the Israelite warriors, and David volunteered for the combat. He refused Saul's offer of armor and confronted Goliath armed only with a sling. He killed the giant with the first stone, and the Philistines fled. Through the centuries the victorious youth was featured in both renaissance and baroque sculpture. The great statues by Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini show different interpretations of the giant slayer. David's success incurred the envy and wrath of Saul, and he fled for his life. David wandered for a long while, and he was thirty when Saul died, and he became King of Judah. Seven and a half years of war ensued, after which he became established as ruler of the twelve tribes of Israel with Jerusalem as his capital. He brought the Ark of the Covenant to the city in triumph and dedicated himself to the Lord with all his might and will.

Passage C
Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American humorist and artist who wrote under the name of Dr. Seuss. He was born in Massachusetts. He went to Dartmouth College. While there, he took advantage of the school's winter sports, especially skiing. After graduation he wrote a column for the SPRINGFIELD UNION. He then decided to go to Oxford University. While there, he had a boring class on Shakespeare and during the lectures drew pictures. He discovered that he had a real talent in cartooning. He traveled in France and Italy, and when he returned to the United States, he began to draw in earnest.
Dr. Seuss essayed the writing and illustrating of books for children. He also painted a number of murals for private homes. He traveled in over thirty countries in Europe, the Near East, and South America. He wrote such works as AND TO THINK THAT I SAW IT ON MULBERRY STREET. In 1941 he blossomed as a political cartoonist for the newspaper PM. His other principal works are THE 500 HATS OF BARTHOLOMEW CUBBINS, THE KING'S STILTS, and THE SEVEN LADY GODIVAS.
